At Significantly Higher Risk • Rare before age 40, the incidence peaks around age 60. • Smokers of over two packs a day. • Over 10 years' exposure to chemicals, particularly petroleum compounds and solvents. • Sufferers of chronic inflammation of the pancreas (chronic pancreatitis). • Iron overload. At Slightly Higher Risk • Some association with alcohol consumption. • History of diabetes, particularly in women. • Men outnumber women by a ratio of 3 to 1.
